Outer Space Stromlo to the Stars

Taking its place among the great observatories of the world, Mount Stromlo Observatory is a first-class universe-exploring facility in the capital of Australia. Emerging from the Canberra landscape in 1911, scientists here have studied outer space: collecting data, testing theories and making astounding discoveries.

From a solar observatory to an optical munitions site, laser-shooting telescopes to Nobel-Prize winning research, time-keeping to international partnerships, Directors and staff have embraced new challenges and developed sought-after expertise.
